A heart attack rarely happens all of a sudden. The truth is — your body often gives you subtle warnings days or even weeks before the actual event. Unfortunately, many people ignore these early symptoms, thinking they are just tired, stressed, or dealing with minor indigestion. According to Professor Dr. A.T.M. Iqbal Hasan, an experienced Cardiologist at Bangladesh Medical University, timely awareness can literally save lives.

He explains that some of the most common early signs of a heart attack include:

  • Discomfort or pressure in the chest that lasts more than a few minutes

  • Shortness of breath, even at rest or during light activity

  • Unexplained fatigue or weakness

  • Pain radiating to the shoulder, arm, neck, or jaw

  • Nausea, sweating, or dizziness

Professor Dr. A.T.M. Iqbal Hasan emphasizes that these symptoms should never be ignored. “If you feel something unusual in your chest, it’s better to check immediately rather than wait. Early diagnosis can prevent a major cardiac event,” he advises.

He also encourages everyone — especially those with high blood pressure, diabetes, or a family history of heart disease — to undergo regular checkups, ECG, and cholesterol monitoring. Healthy lifestyle habits such as balanced diet, exercise, quitting smoking, and maintaining mental calm can drastically reduce your risk.

“Your heart speaks to you — not with words, but through sensations. Listen to it,” says Professor Dr. A.T.M. Iqbal Hasan. “Recognizing early warning signs is not fear, it’s wisdom. And wisdom is what keeps your heart beating strong.”

Under his care, many patients have not only recovered from heart complications but have also learned how to lead a healthier, happier life with renewed confidence.
